THE LANSBURY ESTATE STEERING GROUP

Notes on NHER ratings

NHER ratings are a way of measuring the energy efficiency of a home, and so they show both how warm a home is and what it costs to heat

An NHER rating of 0 is terrible and 10 is excellent. I believe that for new buildings built to current building stanards, the NHER will be between 7 and 8.

From 2006, prospective buyers will be given a pack which will include the NHER rating for a home. Consequently, NHER ratings are likely to have some affect on the value of a property.

In practice, a low NHER rating is likely to mean that people on low income will be cold as they won't be able to afford the higher heating costs.
