'Post-it' Note Feedback
INTRODUCTION
To launch the consultation element of Lansbury Housing Choice Poplar
HARCA organised four introduction events. :
- An initial open event on Saturday 6th March 2004 between 10.00 am
and 1.00pm.
Three residents Drop in events on:
- Tuesday 16 March between 4.00pm and 7.00 pm for
residents from south of Cordelia street.
- Thursday 18 March between 4.00pm and 7.00pm for
residents from the Chrisp street Market area
- Tuesday the 23 of March between 4.00pm and 7.00 pm
for residents north of Cordelia street.
Members of Baily Garner's Masterplanning team attended all events and were
available to receive comments from residents who were invited to stick "Post -
it" notes onto a large scale site plan of the area.
There now follows a list of the
comments received.
Comments received are listed in the categories below. These are very much
direct quotes from the residents - it is now Baily Garner's intention to take on
these comments in developing specific proposals for the Masterplan.

GENERAL
- School has amalgamated to become Lansbury Lawrence.
- Not enough for adults to do.
- Racism + drunk people come at night - not safe.
- Bring back Poplar Baths as a swimming pool.

- Would like security patrols.
- No play areas for kids
- Get rid of pigeons
- No swimming pool - need one
- Open space, too many pigeons and dog mess on grassed area.
- Links with schools to use their play areas
- More greenery, trees and shrubs. .
- Likes computer training, needs better publicity.
- Parking after 5.30 for residents needed.
- Would like security patrols.
- No play areas for kids

CHRISP STREET AREA
CHRISP STREET AREA & MARKET
- Trees gone on market square, they did shelter the buildings.
- No park, seating area with grass.
- Lighting poor up the stairs to podium. Door entry doesn't work.
- Market to be improved.
- Increase size of market
- Better signposts for Market Way residential area.
- Play football on market.
- Variety of shops needed.
- Clean up.
- Not enough shops - not any variety.
- Drainage bad.
- No activity at night
- Unsafe - drugs prevalent.
- A swimming pool near Poplar
- More play areas for young people.
- Problems outside Festival Inn during summer.
- Scrap Market - No decent shops!
- Crisp Street markets all covered - bookshops rteeded
- Pubs serve under age.
- Drug dealers on market phone.
- Market-Put back tiles on pillars

HEALTH CENTRE AT CHRISP STREET
- Put adventure playground here.
- What's happening here?
ENNIS HOUSE
- Council don't clean above the third floor.
- No fire escape.
- Fire escapes for blocks.
- Nowhere to park.
- Improve entrance lighting, stairway + walls, CCTV, cameras fitted to front of
building,
IDEAS STORE
- Hide the ideas store with trees at least on podium.
KILMORE
Paint outside of block.
Reduce drug problem
Door entry system to be fixed to reduce crime.
Nothing sperit, no security doors at grounCl level.
ASB, things thrown over landing.
Drug related problems.

FITZGERALD
- Kids hang out in streets nothing to do.
- Not using the bins - dumping rubbish on ground
- Poor outside lighting
- Lift always breaking down
- No children's play area on podium now.
- Worried about children's safety-drug addicts in stairways
- Better parking for tenants
- Likes block, needs repairs, market is annoying, no kids play area, nothing for
Bengali parents.
- Communal areas need a clean
- Kids had a football pitch on top of shops - now taken over by Ideas Store. Now
play in Poplar Park and Bartlett.
- Outside to look modern, friendly security guard, Park downstairs to play that
won't get wrecked.
- Better windows, cameras in lifts, knock down building and make houses
instead. Cameras on stairs to stop drug addicts.
- Concierge, ID cards - proof resident in building. Take away first floor
entrance.
- Lost fire escape, Ideas Store eyesore, community changed over years
- Safe play area for children
- Security - anyone can get into the building.
- People sitting on stairs - drug taking. Lots of burglaries.
- 3 + 4B units Fitz and Ennis - Lots of children but no playing areas
- Double glazing, Bathroom toilet broken. Security issues, drug taking.
- Need play area, nothing for kids.

LANSBURY GREEN
- Children's play area - Lansbury green.
- Park has many "escape" routes. Is It possible to close some off?
- More paths for access
- Poor lighting
TALBOT HOUSE
- Stairwell very dirty - needs home cleaning programme
- Open space to be improved
- Garbage disposal needs to be sorted; sometimes there is rubbish on street.
- Something for young people, too many hanging around after 9.00 pm - police
have to be called.

- Issues with noise - music from neighbours, very loud can hear through walls
- Front door to building easy to wrench open.

- Like the flat - if only we could move it

OSTERLEY HOUSE
- Landscape similar to Maidstone

- Brick wall around the block - like Maidstone house.

- Open space ok
- Nothing in front of front door - need front gardens
- Grassed area - good to take away kick about area.
ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND
- Only open certain times not all time
CARMEN CLOSE
- Fire access
- Parking
- Narrow street
- Nice open space.
ALTON STREET
- Needs to be painted
- Window condensation.
- Alton green space could be landscaped.
- Play equipment in green space.
- Better lighting.
SOUTH OF CORDELIA STREET AREA
HECKFORD HOUSE.
- Yard at back but rubbish out front - messy.
- Demolish Heckford house or renovate and deal with rubbish problem.
PLIMSOLL CLOSE
- Nice community people look out for one another.
- Make car park private.
- Quite nice area
- Lovely green.
- Railings onto East India Road
- Kitchens too small - more cupboards.
FLORA CLOSE
- Flora close elderly residents
- Nice Corner
ELGIN HOUSE.
- No privacy on front balcony
- Would like somewhere to sunbathe.
- Roof garden.
- 3 people have parking.
- Like a garden
- Landscape car park have central staircase.
- People use car park to access school - make car park private.
- No security on Elgin house - open staircase closing off entrances.
- Don't build high on Flora and overlook Elgin.
- Parents dropping off children - park cars outside and around Elgin House -
can't park or move your own car.
- Elgin house dumping off rubbish.
- Elgin house parking issues overcrowding.
ELIZABETH CLOSE/ GRUNDY STREET
Elizabeth close alley - smells, unsafe, rubbish issue; no chute.
Grundy street - drug dealer's prevalent - use phone box and sell drugs on the
corner of Duff/ Grundy Street.
No - new builds to rear or park/ play area. Extend back garden, more lighting
UPPER NORTH STREET.
- Dangerous road - cars drive too fast, width restrictions, pedestrian crossings.
BARTLETT PARK
- Losing chunks off Bartlett Park.
HIND GROVE
Will the traffic ever be affected by any improvements to the traffic routes on
the estate?
SHEPHERD HOUSE
- Dark area "secluded", antisocial behaviour, drug dealing.
RICARDO STREET
- Bird boxes to encourage sparrows.
- Close up refuse and improve facilities.
SARACEN STREET
- Road and pavement RE - improvements.
CHILCOT CLOSE
- Green space (at back of Chilcot) Kids light fires and pull up trees.
- Maisonette front door - vulnerable to break in. Gate at ground level solved
problem.
- Playground, kick about, cut through.
- Rubbish blows from Crisp Street Market.
- Well-lit lights on walls.
- Do something with playground
- Bonfire on Guy Fawks.
- Maison, town house - no service charges. Bed sits.
- Maisonette 3B, Now 4B - LR smaller. Deconv.
- No 19 Chilcot house - only 3 on a communal - every one looks after each
other.
FARRANCE STREET
- Balconies to upper floors, washing, flower box
- Green in front was nice now not
- Warden call good for the mature.
- Farrance Street 2-36 needs a warden.
- Off Burdett road - lovely.
BYGROVE STREET
- Security doors "slam" and make too much noise.
- Car has been broken into.
- Cables running garden.
- Have car parking in front of block
